Breast Augmentation Is Part of a Mommy Makeover

Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation, also called Mammoplasty, or BAM, involves the enhancement of a woman’s breasts with the use of implants or fat. Its goal is to fulfill a patient’s desire for fuller breasts or to restore breast volume. Many conditions can reduce the volume of the breasts, such as weight reduction, pregnancy, or simply the effects of aging.

Part of a Mommy Makeover may include breast augmentation because many women see a noticeable reduction in the size of their breasts after pregnancy, and especially after breast feeding has been completed. In addition, many women complain that their breasts have sagged excessively after a pregnancy. They may also need a breast lift. Both procedures may be necessary to fulfill the desires of the woman for an improved cosmetic appearance of her breasts.

Breast augmentation mammoplasty (BAM) can increase the fullness and the projection of the breasts from the chest wall. It can improve the balance of a woman’s figure by contouring the breasts in proportion with her hips and the rest of her body. The procedure increases the volume of the breasts and may help in improving the woman’s cleavage. But probably the most important quality of breast augmentation is the enhancement of a woman’s self-image and the self-confidence that she feels because of the way she looks after the procedure.

Most cosmetic surgeons use implants to fill the breasts. The size of the implants depends on the patient’s desires for the amount of fullness for her breasts. BAM is a highly individualized procedure, tailored to what the patient wants. It is a personal procedure that should be performed for the patient and her wishes. It should not be done to fulfill someone else’s desires or to try to fit any sort of idealized image or person.

BAM is a good option for women who:

  • Have good health physically
  • Have realistic expectations
  • Has breasts that are fully developed
  • Are dissatisfied with the volume, or size, of their breasts
  • Are bothered by the feeling that their breasts are too small
  • Have one breast smaller than the other or have a different shape.
  • Understand the limitations of the procedure.

If you fill any of the above characteristics, you may be a candidate for breast augmentation.

The most common type of breast augmentation is through implants. Breast implants come in many sizes, shapes and types. The two main types of implants available are either saline or silicone. Each has its own good and bad points and one should discuss these with their cosmetic surgeon. He/she may have a preference of one over the other depending on your individual situation. These options should also be evaluated to see if they meet with your expectations. You should choose the type based on your desires and wants.

Implant shapes vary too, and can either project out further from the chest or spread wider near the chest. Moreover, the placement of the implants is also very variable. They can be above the chest muscles or below them, and even these have variations. The best way to find out what is the best choice for you is to see actual results of the procedure using the different types of implants. The size of the implants can vary tremendously too. Again, you must choose based on what your ideal breast size should be so you can fulfill your dream of the breasts you desire.

There are potential risks with any surgery, and BAM has potential risks too. Each person must decide if the benefits of doing the procedure outweigh the potential risks or complications that may occur after the surgery. If you choose to proceed, you are with the millions of women who have BAM and conclude that the benefits of improved appearance of the breasts more than outweigh the potential risks or potential complications that may occur from the procedure.

Some of the risks of BAM include the following:

  • Infection – may require implant removal
  • Bleeding – may result in a hematoma
  • Poor healing – of the incisions
  • Change in nipple sensations – either numbness or hypersensitivity; may be temporary but may be permanent.
  • Capsular contracture – formation of scar tissue around the implant to make it feel hard
  • Implant leakage or rupture – most manufacturers provide a warranty
  • Wrinkling of the skin over the implant
  • Asymmetric appearance – breasts should be considered sisters, not identical twins
  • General Anesthesia risks – fluid overload, blood clots, DVTs, cardiac and pulmonary complications
  • Possible revision surgery – for multiple reasons
  • Possible replacement surgery of the implant.

There are also many myths about implants that should be clarified. First, implants do not cause autoimmune diseases as was once thought with silicone implants. This has been proven false and implants are considered very safe now, even the silicone variety. Second, implants do not cause cancer of the breasts. Multiple studies have documented that the incidence of breast cancer is the same whether an implant is present or not.

Another less popular type of breast augmentation is called the Natural Breast Augmentation. Here, fat is harvested from you body and then reinjected into your breasts to enhance their size and shape. This procedure may result in more natural appearing breasts because the breasts naturally are made primarily of you fat. The procedure is not for everyone and one should understand that there are downsides  of this technique. For example, normally the fat does not last forever. Women must have the procedure performed multiple times to maintain the enhancement.

If you desire breast augmentation and have considered the benefits and risks of the procedure, you should next talk with your cosmetic surgeon regarding this procedure. It can be a life-changing present you give to yourself and be part of your Mommy Makeover.

Plastic Surgery for Mom’s – Mommy Make Over

Having children and being a mom is a blessing. Being a mother can be a tough job and it can be tough on your body. Unfortunately with childbearing and breast-feeding comes unwanted changes on your body like stretch marks, loose skin, saggy breasts, and weight gain. It is essential for a mother to take good care of her family as well as herself.

Self-confidence is key when it comes to being a mom.

Each mommy makeover is unique and costumed to benefit each individual woman’s needs. Mommy makeovers are designed to counteract the physical effects of childbearing and nursing or breastfeeding. Every makeover is different and may require multiple procedures to achieve the best results possible.

During your consultation, your plastic surgeon will examine you and discuss the options available for you to begin your transformation. A mommy makeover may include procedures such as a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), breast augmentation, breast lift (mastopexy), breast reduction, or liposuction.

Exercise and a healthy diet are beneficial during and after pregnancy. Your plastic surgeon will recommend that you be at your goal weight or that you lose as much weight as you can before having the procedures done to get the best results possible. This is to ensure a long-lasting result and avoid any further surgery. Fortunately, as a result of a mommy makeover, many women find themselves motivated to maintain their new and improved look. They feel sexier, happier, and ultimately more confident.

Makeovers require a good amount of recovery. We recommend 4 weeks of taking it easy and following pre-op and post-op care instructions. As long as you follow the doctors orders, expect amazing and complication-free results. Healing time can vary from patient to patient. Look at it as 4 weeks of sacrifice and the rest of your life for you to enjoy the new you!
